new members equipment

Tue Dec 29, 2015 9:45 am

Hi Guys,

As a possible new member
just wonder i you could give me some advise on equipment.

Ben tells me that you portray the 1st infantry and 82rd airborne etc
just wondered if you thought its o.k to carry a std carbine when portraying a infantry role.

I guess most guy would have a GARAND rifle

Already have some webbing/equipment
so want to some on extra expense

Your thoughts, please

Dave

Hi Dave,

Glad to see that you made it onto the Forum :)

Regarding weapons, yes, generally we advise all new members to carry an M1 Rifle ("Garand") at events and when portraying any scenario really, as this is the most accurate for the vast majority of impressions. From time to time, M1 Carbines may be allowed, but as a general rule of thumb, they should only be carried by one member of the group at any one time (unless there's a particular need for more).

Do you have a list of the items that you already have? That might prove to be a good starting point really. Also, do you have any pictures from your time with the SELHG? These will certainly help us to offer some comments and recommendations for how to move forward.

Best wishes,
Ben.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the list, and sorry for the delayed response. I got your email, but thought it would be easier to reply on the forum to keep everything together. Things have been a bit hectic this end, so once again sorry for the late reply.

It looks like you're all set for the vast majority of our impressions. I must say though, that we're quite strict about our uniform and equipment regulations, and generally try to advise people to stay away from poor quality reproductions and such. Are your web items original or reproductions?

Of course in time, we would advise you to try and secure an M1 Rifle and the accompanying web equipment for same, as this will generally fit in better with what we do.

If you're interested in joining the group, I'd recommend coming along to an event and seeing how we operate as a group, and what we're all about. We offer prospective members the opportunity to come along to an event for free to get a feel for the group, and this has worked very well in the past. For your records, here's a list of events that we're attending (in some capacity or another) in 2016:

Lanc, Tank and Military Machines (East Kirkby, Lincolnshire; 28 – 30 May 2016)
Crich Tramway Museum 1940s Weekend (Dates TBC)
Peak Rail 1940s Weekend (Matlock, Derbyshire; 6 – 7 August 2016)
The Victory Show (Cosby, Leicestershire; 2 – 4 September 2016)

Whereabouts are you based?

Cheers,
Ben.

Hi Dave,
Would it be possible to post some pictures of your web equipment? We would then be better able to pass comment on it.

We don't have any events in your neck of the woods on the list at the moment. We do sometimes add events as they are brought to members attention and they are considered suitable for the group to attend, but that also depends on members availability.

Cheers,
Chris.
I don't mind a theif, but I can't stand a f**king liar
