us army tents

Hi guys,
just been reading the article about tents and pitching them.

wonder if you can give me some advice about which colour 1/2 shelter I should
buy to fit in with your reenactments tan or olive

I guess olive is the later colour and their seems to be plenty post war tents available.
my understanding is that the main difference in ww2 and post war was pole design
ie folding or screw together

would a post war olive be acceptable that your events?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your message .The colour is not really important to be honest, especially since it's possible to locate early ones which are also OD7, and later ones (i.e. 1945) which are OD3 (tan).

The main difference between the wartime production Shelter Tents and those made after the war is the use of poppers in place of buttons. Wartime production examples should have metal buttons as follows:

The post-war examples use snaps in place of the buttons.

Unfortunately, the later type are not really suitable for WW2 displays. However, I have a friend who has a nice range of originals at decent prices. If you're interested, I can probably arrange collection from him at Malvern on 20 March?

Let me know if you have any more questions :)
